NEST
The things we accumulate tell a story.

Gathered from 25 interviews and 22 different collections, from 8 year old collectors to 90 year old collectors, from the ephemeral to the heirloom, and from short term stashes to life-long accumulations, Nest is an introspective into the role that our collections play in creating, defining and recording our identities.

Exhibited in February 2024, this was my capstone project for my Graphic Design BFA at BYU.

SOME QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER
Why do some people embrace collecting and others avoid it?

What is the line that separates collection and clutter?

What needs does collecting fulfill?

What makes an item an heirloom?

How do you determine what to hold onto and what to let go of?

How does your parent’s or grandparent’s view of collecting impact your own perspective?
